Born in Dublin, he was a leading figure in the Irish Arts and Crafts Movement. This is a beauty of a copper box, with simple form, great lines, and fantastic patina that give it a true, honest elegance. I found it with a book (about carpentry) inside and believe it was indeed intended as a book box, but it would also be excellent for holding important documents, letters, or old photos, or fill it with water and use it as a vase. Just a beautiful thing. I'd guess first.

This is an excellent book about Irish hand crafts. Highly recommended. The book was originally published in ±. This is an updated reprint with some new crafts and craftspeople. Most of the sections detail crafts and craftsmen and women unfortunately no longer with us.
